About EngiFree
EngiFree is a curated directory of free software and tools for engineers and engineering students. The goal is simple: reach the right tool quickly by engineering field, licence type and platform, instead of digging through dozens of link lists.
Every record links only to the vendor's official download page. We do not host installers, we do not run download mirrors, and we do not publish cracks, keygens or "full versions". Submissions of that kind are rejected.
For each program we state explicitly which licence it carries and what its terms are. "Free for engineers" and "free for students" are two completely different things at most vendors, and a student licence is usually time-limited, restricted to coursework and requires renewal. Descriptions are written independently and are not copied from vendor marketing material.
Every record carries a "last verified" date. We re-check links and licence terms every six months, because a broken link or a licence that quietly changed destroys the trust in the site.
Three degrees of "free"
"Free" is a word that stretches in every direction, so each program in the directory is assigned to one of three clear tiers:
- Completely free — anyone can download and use the full feature set, including commercial work, with no time limit and no eligibility conditions. Open-source software belongs here.
- Limited free version — the free version is open to everyone but reduced: features are missing, there is a resource quota, or results are stored publicly. Full use requires payment.
- Free for a specific group — free only for those who meet eligibility conditions: students, academic staff, or personal non-commercial use. The licence is time-limited, requires proof of eligibility and usually annual renewal.
That distinction is the reason this site exists. A student licence that expires in the middle of a project is a real problem.
Who is behind EngiFree
The site is built and maintained by ADIT Ltd., an Israeli company specialising in anchoring, strengthening and fastening solutions for structures. ADIT is glad to give the engineering community a tool that improves the quality of design work: an engineer with a reliable calculation tool at hand works faster, safer and more accurately.
The idea is simple — one place that collects the software and calculators any engineer, designer or student can use to work better, faster and more easily: no cost, no sign-up, no hidden conditions.
Disclosure: EngiFree is run by Yves Delathouwer, who also owns ADIT Ltd. ADIT's calculation tools appear in the directory under exactly the same rules as every other program — free, no registration, licence terms stated explicitly. They receive no preferential ranking and are ordered in every list like everything else. One exception: the "Good places to start" block on the home page consistently shows five Hebrew-interface tools alongside five international ones, and since most free Hebrew calculation tools are ADIT's, half of that block is theirs. Nowhere else on the site do they get any preference.
