Suggest Software for the Directory

Know a free program or tool that is missing here? Send it in. The directory is built partly from suggestions by engineers and students who actually use these tools — and that is exactly the kind of information search engines are bad at surfacing.

What belongs in the directory

• Software or an online tool with real value for an engineer or an engineering student.
• Free — in one of the three tiers: completely free, a limited free edition, or free for a specific group.
• With an official download page from the vendor or the project.
• Maintained. A project with no release for years will not be added, because a dead link damages the whole directory.

What does not belong

• Paid software, even with a trial period. "Try for free" is not a free licence.
• Cracks, key generators, torrents, download mirrors or any unofficial source — rejected automatically.
• Programming libraries and file formats. Those are not tools an engineer opens and works in.

What happens after you send it

Every suggestion is checked by hand: that the link is live and leads to the official page, what exactly the licence terms are, and which field and tool type it belongs under. After the check we write an original description and set a verification date. Only then is the entry published.
