MODPATH is the USGS particle-tracking post-processor for MODFLOW. It computes the path and travel time of water particles through an aquifer, which lets you map capture zones and wellhead protection areas, estimate groundwater age and trace the source of a contaminant. It works with MODFLOW-2005, MODFLOW-USG and MODFLOW 6. Suited to water engineers, hydrogeologists and planners of protection zones around drinking-water wells. Limitations: it is a command-line program with no graphical interface, usually set up through ModelMuse or FloPy; on unstructured grids only certain rectangular quadtree-type grids are supported; the bundled executables are for Windows.
