Linux

Linux is the natural platform for most of the open solvers in fluid dynamics, finite elements and multiphysics. Many were developed on it, are documented on it, and community support assumes it by default.

If you run heavy computations or work on a server, this is the platform that will save you the most trouble. If your work is mainly drafting and design in an office, the selection here is narrower.
