Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineering is covered here at two levels. At full-process level there is a simulator with a flowsheet, a thermodynamic property database and unit models for separation columns, reactors, heat exchangers and pumps — the open alternative to commercial packages costing tens of thousands a year.

At single-calculation level there are libraries and calculators for thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, fluid properties and combustion. These suit the case where you do not need a whole process, just to check a value, verify a balance, or run a calculation inside a larger script.

For a chemical engineering student this is a particularly good starting point: you can build a complete process, see the flowsheet and understand what happens in each unit, without waiting for a lab licence.
