SRH-2D — 2D Flow and Sediment Transport Model

SRH-2D — 2D Flow and Sediment Transport Model

A two-dimensional model for flow in streams and rivers, developed by the US Bureau of Reclamation with the FHWA and Taiwan’s Water Resources Agency. Unlike a one-dimensional model that assumes an averaged cross-section, it solves the velocity field in plan — so it suits cases where flow is not parallel to the channel: bridge contractions, bypasses, floodplains and tributary junctions. It includes multi-size sediment transport with bed level changing over time, and handles subcritical, supercritical and transcritical flow. It complements HEC-RAS: where one dimension is enough, HEC-RAS does the job; SRH-2D comes in when spatial detail is needed.
