GeoNode is a web application for building a spatial data infrastructure (SDI) and an organisational GIS portal. Users upload vector and raster layers through the browser, style them, build interactive maps, add metadata and share them with fine-grained user and group permissions. Data is also served as standard OGC services (WMS, WFS, WCS, WMTS, CSW), so it opens directly in QGIS, and a REST API allows customisation. Suited to municipalities, engineering firms and large projects that want one shared map repository instead of scattered files. Limitations: it is server software – installation (usually Docker on Linux), maintenance and security need system administration skills; it does not replace desktop GIS for advanced editing.
