Orfeo ToolBox, initiated by the French space agency CNES, processes very large satellite and aerial images. It ships dozens of ready applications – including orthorectification, pansharpening, supervised and unsupervised classification, image segmentation, radiometric indices and SAR processing – that run from the command line, from Python or inside QGIS. Suited to environmental and water engineers, planners and GIS staff analysing land cover, floods or terrain change from satellite imagery. Limitations: since version 9 the standalone GUI (Monteverdi) has been dropped and graphical work goes through a QGIS plugin installed separately; ready-made packages exist for Windows and Linux only.
