The full version of AutoCAD is available at no cost to students and staff of recognised educational institutions under the Autodesk education programme. In capability terms it is the same software used in professional offices — 2D drafting, layers and dimensioning, DWG files and discipline-specific workspaces. The difference is legal rather than technical: the licence is for educational purposes only, it is time-limited, and it requires proof of eligibility and renewal. Drawings produced under it are not intended for commercial use.
