BEopt

NREL’s BEopt evaluates designs of residential buildings, single-family and multi-family, for new construction and retrofits. You define the house and options such as insulation, windows and HVAC systems, and the program runs EnergyPlus simulations and shows the lowest-cost combinations for each level of energy saving. Suited to energy consultants and building services designers. Limitations: it runs on Windows only, climate and cost defaults are tailored to the US, and the current version is labelled beta.
