CBE Thermal Comfort Tool

CBE Thermal Comfort Tool
Download from the vendor comfort.cbe.berkeley.edu

The tool computes thermal comfort indices from the parameters that determine them: air temperature, mean radiant temperature, air speed, humidity, clothing insulation and metabolic rate. It returns PMV and PPD, flags whether the point falls inside the accepted range, and plots the result on an interactive psychrometric chart.

It also includes the adaptive model for naturally ventilated buildings, local discomfort calculations (draught, ankle-to-head temperature difference) and the effect of a ceiling fan.

For an HVAC engineer it is the fastest way to check whether a design point is genuinely comfortable, and to see how far the design temperature can rise if air movement is added — a direct energy saving. Runs in the browser, with no installation or registration.
