CotEditor is a light text editor built specifically for macOS that feels like a native Mac app. It has syntax highlighting for more than 60 languages, regex find and replace, an outline menu, split view, automatic backup, a character inspector that spots hidden characters or characters incompatible with the encoding, and scripting support. It suits quick editing of CSV, config files, scripts and Markdown for people who work on a Mac and do not need an IDE. Limitation: macOS only, the current version requires macOS 26 or later, and there are no IDE tools such as a debugger or LSP.
