QGIS

An open-source geographic information system for working with spatial layers: shapefiles, GeoPackage, raster and aerial imagery, topological editing, spatial analysis and print-ready map output. In civil engineering it is used for infrastructure planning, drainage and terrain analysis, and for checking a road or utility alignment against the ground. It has a large plugin ecosystem and direct support for spatial databases such as PostGIS, so it can plug into an existing office workflow without format conversion.
