REopt is an optimisation tool from the US national laboratory NREL (now the National Laboratory of the Rockies) for evaluating the economics of distributed energy resources at a building, campus or microgrid. You enter loads, tariffs and costs, and it computes the optimal size and dispatch of solar PV, wind, batteries, combined heat and power (CHP) and thermal storage, plus how long the system can sustain critical loads during an outage. Suited to energy consultants, electrical engineers and project developers. Limitations: it is a screening tool, not detailed design; built-in tariff and climate data focus mainly on the United States; it needs an internet connection.
