WhiteboxTools is an analysis library with over four hundred tools, specialising in elevation model processing and LiDAR data: depression filling and flow direction, stream network and catchment extraction, terrain indices, point cloud filtering and classification, and creating terrain and surface models from LAS files.

It runs from the command line or from Python, and is also available as a plugin inside QGIS — the convenient route for most users. Its performance on large files is notably better than the alternatives.

The core version is open and free; the company separately sells professional extensions that are not needed for most work.
