PyBullet — The Complete Guide: A Physics Engine for Robotics and Reinforcement Learning in Python

PyBullet is a Python interface to the Bullet physics engine, built for robotics research. Write a few lines, load a model of an arm or a walking robot, and run a simulation — with or without a graphical view, fast enough to train reinforcement-learning policies on an ordinary workstation.

What you get

When to choose it

When you want a light simulation controlled entirely from Python — to try a controller, train an agent or check the motion of an arm. For especially fast, accurate contact simulation MuJoCo is common today, and for a full simulation with sensors and ROS — Gazebo. It is not the tool for engineering analysis of forces in a structure.

Related tools

For robot simulation with a world and sensors — Webots. For biomechanics and human movement — OpenSim. To connect to a real robot — ROS.

The bottom line

PyBullet is a fast, free way to bring physics into Python code — excellent for research, courses and prototyping controllers.
