Firedrake is a system for the automated solution of partial differential equations by finite elements, developed at Imperial College London. You write the problem in Python in a language close to the mathematical formulation (UFL), and Firedrake generates fast, parallel code itself. It also supports adjoint computation for optimisation and sensitivity analysis. It is used for fluid flow, geophysics, oceanography and solid mechanics. It runs on Linux and macOS, and on Windows through WSL. It suits researchers and students familiar with the weak formulation.
