FLORIS

National Laboratory of the Rockies (formerly NREL)

FLORIS

FLORIS is a Python library from NREL (now the National Laboratory of the Rockies) that uses fast engineering models to simulate wakes, the aerodynamic shadow a wind turbine casts on the turbines behind it. It is used to estimate annual energy production of a wind farm, compare turbine layouts and study control strategies such as wake steering to raise total farm output. Suited to wind-energy engineers, wind-farm planners and researchers. Limitations: there is no graphical interface, so work is done in Python scripts (Python 3.10 or later); the models are steady-state and do not replace CFD or measurements for final verification.
