fre:ac is a free, open-source audio converter with no ads and no installer add-ons. It converts between MP3, M4A/AAC, FLAC, Opus, Ogg Vorbis, WMA, WAV and other formats, and can convert a whole library while keeping the folder structure and file names. It includes a CD ripper with online track lookup, multi-core encoders and a portable edition that runs from a USB drive. For an engineer it is handy for converting recordings of meetings, lectures or acoustic measurements to one compact format. Note: the last stable release came out in 2023, and since then only continuous development builds have been published.
