GNU Emacs

GNU Emacs is a long-standing text editor built around an Emacs Lisp interpreter, so almost every behaviour can be changed and extended. Beyond code editing with dedicated modes for many languages, it includes Org mode for managing notes, tasks and technical documents with runnable code inside, and add-ons such as AUCTeX for writing LaTeX and Magit for Git work are available. It suits engineers who want one tool for code, documentation and knowledge management over many years. Limitation: the learning curve and shortcuts differ greatly from ordinary programs, and setup takes effort.
