Kanboard does one thing: a visual board with columns that tasks move between. You can limit how many tasks are allowed in a column at once, attach files and subtasks, log time and view flow reports.
It is deliberately positioned against the complexity of large management systems: installation is copying files to a server, and it runs on modest shared hosting. For a small office that wants to see at a glance what is in the lab, what is with the client and what awaits approval, it is entirely enough.
What is missing: no Gantt and no resource management. For schedule planning, use ProjectLibre.
