Mayavi is a Python tool for interactive 3D visualisation of scientific data, built on VTK. You can use it as an application with a graphical interface or as a library inside a script (mlab), and display iso-surfaces, streamlines, vectors, cut planes and tensor fields — for example CFD or finite-element results. Suited to engineers and researchers who work in Python. Limitations: installation depends on VTK and a GUI toolkit (PyQt, PySide or wxPython) and can be fiddly, and for very large data sets ParaView is a better fit.
