WISDEM

WISDEM (Wind-Plant Integrated System Design and Engineering Model) from NREL (now the National Laboratory of the Rockies) is a framework for systems design and optimisation of wind turbines and wind plants. It links modules for rotor aerodynamics, drivetrain and generator, tower and floating platforms with cost models and levelised cost of energy (LCOE), and is built on OpenMDAO. Inputs are YAML files, and a basic GUI is also provided. Suited to mechanical and structural engineers in wind energy and to researchers. Limitations: it is meant for conceptual and early-stage design, not detailed design or certification; it needs a Python environment (3.11 or later) and some familiarity with OpenMDAO.
