wxMaxima — Symbolic Algebra
Download from the vendor wxmaxima-developers.github.io

A computer algebra system that solves analytically rather than numerically: it differentiates, integrates, solves equations and systems of equations, simplifies expressions and handles differential equations. Maxima itself is a direct descendant of MIT’s Macsyma and has been developed since the 1960s; wxMaxima is the graphical interface that makes it usable — input in mathematical notation, formatted output, and notebooks you can save. For an engineer it is the tool for deriving a closed-form expression rather than running numbers, and it is the most serious free alternative to systems like Mathematica and Maple.
