Zed is a code editor written in Rust that focuses on speed: it opens instantly, scrolls large files without lag and has built-in language server (LSP) support for completion and code navigation, a terminal, Git and real-time collaborative editing with colleagues. It suits engineers who write Python, C or scripts and want a light alternative to VS Code. You can connect AI models with your own API key or switch all AI features off. Limitation: the extension library is still small compared with VS Code, and Zed-hosted AI beyond the free allowance needs a subscription.
