This category is not software but starting points: maintained catalogues and repositories of free tools, mostly from government agencies and professional institutes.

We included them because in certain fields — soil, water, building energy — the repository itself is worth more than any single tool: it is kept up to date, organised by subject, and backed by an organisation responsible for the content.

Note that every tool linked from such a repository carries its own licence. The catalogue is open to use, but you need to check the terms of the specific tool you download.
