CADProps — The Complete Guide: Volume, Weight and Dimensions of a CAD File Right in the Browser

A supplier sends you a STEP file or a SolidWorks part and you need its weight, volume or overall size — without opening a CAD program. CADProps does exactly that in the browser: upload a file, see the model in 3D, and the side panel shows the bounding box, solid volume, surface area and mass from a density you choose.

What you get

What to know before you upload

Files are sent to the CADProps server for processing, so this is not the tool for confidential client drawings. For viewing that stays entirely on your computer, use Online 3D Viewer. Volume and weight are exact only for a valid closed solid, and the density is your own assumption — check it against the material specification. It is a new, independent service with ads on some pages; guest files are deleted after about an hour.

Related tools

For local viewing with no upload — Online 3D Viewer or F3D. For Autodesk files in the cloud — Autodesk Viewer. When you also need to edit the geometry — FreeCAD.

The bottom line

The fastest way to get the volume, weight and dimensions of a CAD file from any common system, with no licence and no install — as long as the file is not confidential.
