GNU Octave

A numerical computing environment whose language syntax is largely compatible with MATLAB, so existing scripts usually run unchanged. It is built for matrix and vector work, solving systems of equations, numerical integration, signal processing and plotting — that is, most of what an engineering student does in computational courses. It lacks the full commercial toolbox range and has no Simulink, but for exercises, algorithms and data processing it is entirely sufficient.
