Visual Studio Code is a cross-platform code editor with smart completion, a built-in terminal, Git integration and a debugger. Extensions turn it into a workspace for Python and Jupyter, LaTeX files, G-code, CSV and JSON files, machine scripts and controller programming. Engineers use it to write calculation scripts, edit input files for simulation programs and work on a remote server over SSH. Limitation: Microsoft’s build sends telemetry by default (mostly switchable off in settings), and it is heavier than simple text editors.
