PTC Mathcad Express — The Complete Guide: Engineering Calculations in Maths Notation, and What the Licence Allows

PTC Mathcad Express lets you write engineering calculations as you would on paper: formulas in maths notation, units checked automatically, recalculation on every change and explanatory text in the same document. It is the free, reduced edition of Mathcad, for Windows.

What you get

Who may use it, and what is limited

PTC states that Mathcad Express is for non-commercial use only and may not be used for commercial work. You install a 30-day trial of the full Mathcad Prime, and when it ends the program reverts to Express with no time limit. Express lacks advanced plots (polar, contour and 3D), differential equations, Fourier transforms and regression; these are only in the paid Mathcad Prime.

The bottom line

For learning and personal projects, Mathcad Express is a good introduction. For client or employer work you need a paid licence or an open alternative.
