SelfCAD — The Complete Guide: Modelling, Sculpting and 3D-Print Preparation in One Place

SelfCAD is a 3D modelling program that tries to cover the whole path from idea to print file: you create solids, draw profiles, refine them with modifiers and sculpting, and finally prepare the model for printing in the built-in slicer without switching to another program. It runs in the browser, and there is also a desktop version whose files are stored in the cloud.

What you get

What is free and what is not

An account is required. The free plan includes the basic modelling tools, drawing, modifiers and the slicer. Rendering, animation, image-to-3D and some utility tools are reserved for the paid Pro subscription. A new account gets a 10-day trial and then reverts to the free plan. Note also that this is not history-based parametric CAD, so it is less suited to parts that must be changed by dimension.

Related tools

For simple drag-and-drop modelling — Tinkercad or CaDoodle. For a dedicated slicer with more control — PrusaSlicer. For full open-source parametric CAD — FreeCAD.

The bottom line

A handy tool for quick print prototypes, with a useful but limited free plan. For parts with exact dimensions, choose parametric CAD.
