Cartographer builds a map while a robot moves through an unknown space, fusing laser scans with odometry and IMU data and closing loops to keep the map consistent. It integrates with ROS and runs on modest onboard hardware.
Note: the original project is no longer actively maintained — it still works, but no new development is taking place.
